Libby and Bernie Simmons were catering Thanksgiving dinner for the Fields family when an explosion happens wished killed Monty Fields the head of the family. No way I'll waste my time on any more of this author's books.Ī Catered Thanksgiving is book seven in A Mystery with Recipes series by Isis Crawford. The mystery is dumb and the recipes weren't even interesting enough for me to read through them at the end of the book. The plot was beyond cliche (a bunch of suspects plus sleuth-sister-heroines stuck in a rundown old mansion during an epic snowstorm which the police cannot even seem to navigate through to investigate a murder), the conversation (especially between the sisters after discovering dead bodies) is completely inane, and the details of the storyline are both bizarre and inconsistent (a guy's head is half blown off by an exploding turkey, but the sisters on the other side of the room are unharmed, and despite the description of his brains being splattered across the room, the family continues to pop in and out of the kitchen to snack on leftovers for the remainder of the book). I read Isis Crawford's first book years ago and remembered liking it, but was sorely disappointed in this poor imitation of the fun foodie/mysteries by the likes of Diane Mott Davidson and Joanne Fluke. "Fans of culinary cozies by Joanne Fluke and Diane Mott Davidson will enjoy discovering Crawford." – Library Journal "This will please Crawford's old fans and bring in new ones." - RT Book Reviews The action builds to more fireworks and a dramatic rescue." - Publishers Weekly Bernie and Libby will have to find out who the culprit is, fast, before the leftovers-and their chances of surviving-run out for good. Worse, the Field Mansion is draped under a snowstorm, trapping them with a killer determined to get more than his piece of the pie. With everyone harboring their own cornucopia of secrets, discovering who wanted to carve up Monty won't be easy. But no one can dress up disaster when the turkey goes boom right in Monty's scowling face, sending him to that great dining room in the sky. Surely with their lumpless mashed potatoes and to-die-for gravy, even the super-dysfunctional Fields can get along for one meal. That's where sisters Bernie and Libby's catering company, A Little Taste of Heaven, comes in. Everything has to be perfect, or they risk getting cut out of dominating patriarch Monty's lucrative will. Whipping up Thanksgiving dinner can be stressful for anyone, but that goes double for the Field family.
